Dai Shikai SOLO EXHIBITION「四海⼤陶展」

2022年12⽉3⽇より、Hidari Zingaroにて、となりのトトやによる「四海⼤陶展」を開催いたします。
福岡県北九州市出⾝の四海⼤は、地元の学校を卒業後、栃⽊県にある企業で⾃動⾞部品の設計に携わっていました。
2017年に益⼦の窯業技術⽀援センターで陶芸を学び始め、2019年に独⽴。現在も益⼦で制作を続けています。
普段は⽫や鉢など、⾷卓に並ぶ器を中⼼に制作をしている四海⽒ですが、本展では壺を主軸とした作品を展⽰販売する予定です。益⼦近辺で採取した原⼟を使⽤し、薪窯で試⾏錯誤を重ねながら焼き上げた作家の最新作をご覧いただけます。

From December 3rd, 2022, the “Dai Shikai Ceramics Exhibition” presented by Tonari no Totoya, will be held at Hidari Zingaro. Born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, after graduating from his local high school, Shikai moved to Tochigi prefecture and worked as a car part designer. In 2017, he began studying ceramics at the Industrial Technology Center of Tochigi Prefecture in Mashiko; he became independent in 2019. He continues to craft his works in Mashiko.
Typically, Shikai makes tableware such as dishes and pots,however, for this exhibition, he is planning to focus on exhibiting and selling tsubo works. You will get to see his new ceramics that are made from raw clay found in the Mashiko area, which was then fired in a wood-fire kiln through many trials and errors.

■作家から本展に寄せて
昨年益⼦のギャラリーで、陶芸家として初めての個展を開催しました。
それまでは⾷器ばかり作っていましたが、展⽰の⽬⽟として壺づくりに取り組んでみると楽しくて、
また壺は薪窯による焼の⼒強さを受け⽌めてくれることに気づきました。
本展では、⾝近で採れた⼟と焼きの魅⼒をベストに引き出したものをお⾒せしたいと考えました。
そのために⼀つひとつの作品に集中できる壺と碗の制作に取り組みましたが、窯焚きのたびにいくつも焼つぶし、
焼損じ…
その中から⽣き残った、熱量のある作品をご覧いただけたらと思います。

Last year I had my first solo exhibition as a ceramist at a gallery in Mashiko. Until then, I had made a bunch of tableware, but as I started making tsubo as the centerpiece for this exhibition, I realized how fun it was. I also realized that tsubo can endure the immense firing from the wood-fire kiln.
I wanted to bring the best out of the clays found in my area with my pottery through this exhibition.
To achieve that, I decided to work on tsubo and bowls so that I could focus on each work individually. However, every time I fired them in the kiln, they would either break or get damaged…
I hope you enjoy the works full of heat, that survived such a process.
