弥生YAYOI

ここ金沢では家にもよりますが四月三十日迄お雛さまたちを飾ります、が、幼い頃の記憶では、お嫁に行きそびれることのないようにと、その日が来たらさっさと仕舞うことになっています。

雛段から降ろされたお供えもののひとつ金華糖(きんかとう)は砕かれ幾つかに分けてご近所にお裾分けしたり、調味料として後始末されます。陽が射したり翳ったり日に日に温か味が増すと、何かしら和やかな気持ちにさせられる桃や菜の花に、そんな金花糖も加えて植食渾然一体(しょくしょくこんぜんいったい)にしてみました。

It depends on the tradition of each family, but here in Kanazawa, we usually display dolls for the Doll Festival, which is on the 3rd of March, until the 30th of April. And if my childhood memory serves me correctly, we put them away quickly from that day onwards with a wish that the girls of the household will be married off not too late.

Kinkato (colourful sugar sweets), one of the offerings taken down from the tiered stand of the dolls, will be used up by breaking it into several pieces to be gifted to the neighbours or used for cooking. And so I made this flower arrangement of ‘harmonious whole between plants and food’ – by making Kinkato join peach tree and canola flowers, which make us feel peaceful when they are becoming more flavoursome while the early spring weather changes from sun to cloud.

Featured in ‘Haran’ and ‘Matsu’ (publisher: SHUFUNOTOMO Co., Ltd.).
Has been making arrangements for events at Kouseiji Buddhism temple since 2006.
Started Kusawara Craft in South Korea from 2007.
Has been exhibiting in a number of solo and group exhibitions.
