My dear friend Fujino’s father was a master painter. In their later years, her mother went into a home first, followed by her father a few years later. The painter’s wife passed away thereafter. My friend, who deeply cared for her painter father, organised an exhibition in one room of the home with the paintings that were left in the master’s studio. She gifted those paintings to the home, hospital and neighbours who looked after her father. When I met the master in the home, I found him a lovely man, yet with a philosophical view at the same time. He passed away last February at the impressive age of ninety-five. My friend sent me a gift to commemorate her father. Is this an earthen pot? Or a tea-pot? Or a sculptural object? No, this is a pot for Sake. I hear the master’s voice telling me either Amazake (sweet mild Sake) or Doburoku (raw Sake) should be good for this pot.
The flowers seem happy too to be selected for someone’s commemoration. I picked this very pot to make a flower arrangement for the master painter.
